Where Flowers Found Me
Celebrating one year of creating
Dearest Friend, I am glad you are here. If you are new to my newsletter, I am glad you found it. This is a space for me to share my journey in flower design, the inspirations that move me, and everything in between.
I can’t believe it’s already been a year of being surrounded by flowers every day. A year full of new lessons, mistakes, accomplishments, and new friendships; a year of believing in myself, my goals, and my biggest dreams. I’m truly proud of that.
This past year has made me reflect deeply on my life. Working in marketing and social media made me incredibly dependent on my phone. I was constantly comparing myself to influencers in my city or others, people who already had houses, money, families, children… and that’s when I started to question the path I wanted to take.
One of the most beautiful things floristry has taught me is to appreciate the mundane and be patient with myself, to be more humble and grounded. I genuinely love this new version of myself that has bloomed through such a big life change. Flowers have taught me the beauty of the present, how something taken from nature can accompany us through the most special moments of our lives. Creating with them has been incredibly meaningful.
To celebrate this one-year mark, I want to share a few lessons that helped me step outside my comfort zone and pursue this dream. Maybe they’ll help you, too.

My family, my husband, and my friends all played a huge role in my decision-making. It’s beautiful when the people who love you also encourage you to take those scary steps forward. That kind of support helped me silence the impostor syndrome that would often stop me from moving ahead.
Talk to your loved ones, share your goals. Sometimes they’ll offer a perspective or idea you hadn’t thought of before.
I was lucky enough to meet one of the florists I admired at an event two years ago. After chatting with her, we stayed in touch, and a few months later, I assisted her at an event. She even showed me the farm where she cuts her flowers. That day was so special to me. There, in the field cutting blooms, I realized how fulfilled I felt.
Reaching out to people in the industry can feel intimidating, especially when you have little or no experience, but you never know, someone might decide to give you a chance.
Practice only makes you better, no matter what you do. Reading books and articles is a great way to start, and building a portfolio helps people discover your creative work. There’s a market right below my apartment, and whenever I had the budget (because let’s be honest, flowers are expensive), I would buy a few stems and practice new techniques. I still do this. Even after a year of working with flowers, I continue to learn.
I love seeing what’s out there. Discovering other florists’ projects is so inspiring and motivating. It amazes me how many techniques and creative directions exist in this craft. I adore the work of Pearl, Granada, Floral Asylum, and so many others. Of course, Kado the Studio, where I work.
In a world where social media shows us everything, it’s easy to think there are already too many artists, but we all see art differently. There will always be someone who resonates with your vision.

At first, I felt a lot of stress and pressure because I worked alongside florists with years and years of experience. Of course, I wasn’t going to get it right immediately. I was new, and I didn’t know how things worked. With time and practice, I began to feel more confident in my designs. And now, a year later, I know that this is the path meant for me.
Just remember to be patient with yourself — learning takes time. Becoming an expert takes even more.
xx Dan
